Mohit Joshi, a former Infosys president, was named MD and CEO designate by IT company Tech Mahindra on Saturday. He will succeed C P Gurnani when he retires on December 19 of this year. The announcement comes after Joshi announced his resignation from Infosys, where he oversaw the company’s software division, which includes Finacle (Infosys’ banking platform), and its artificial intelligence and automation portfolio.
“When C P Gurnani leaves his position as MD and CEO on December 19, 2023, Mohit will take over. To give himself enough time for a smooth transition, he will join Tech Mahindra much earlier than that, the company said in a statement. Joshi has resigned from Infosys, according to a separate regulatory filing from the company.
Joshi will succeed Gurnani, who has held the position of chief executive officer of the Indian IT sector for one of the longest stretches. Gurnani joined Tech Mahindra in 2004 and later oversaw the acquisition of Satyam Computers, a company plagued by fraud, and its merger with Tech Mahindra. Since June 2009, he has served as Tech Mahindra’s MD and CEO.
Joshi’s appointment, according to Tech Mahindra Nomination and Remuneration Committee (NRC) chairperson T N Manoharan, is the fruit of a thorough screening procedure in which the NRC assessed a variety of internal and foreign applicants. The statement reads, “Mohit’s experience with digital transformation, new technologies, and significant deals will complement Tech Mahindra’s strategy and continue to build on the strong growth momentum displayed by the firm.
Joshi was in charge of the Infosys Knowledge Institute as well as the internal CIO function of the business. He joined the Risk & Governance and Nomination committees of Aviva Plc in 2020 and has served as a non-executive director since then.
“Tech Mahindra has experienced phenomenal growth. To reach new milestones, make a difference, and rise together, I am thrilled to be joining the Tech Mahindra family and am looking forward to working closely with all the associates, partners, and customers, Joshi added. Joshi worked for ABN AMRO and ANZ Grindlays in their corporate and investment bank prior to joining Infosys in 2000. Mohit currently resides in London with his family after having lived and worked in Asia, America, and Europe.
