Meati Foods, a manufacturer of delectable whole-food protein derived from mushroom roots, announced today the opening of an industrial-scale production facility in Thornton, Colorado. This facility was partially funded by the company’s oversubscribed Series C round, bringing the company’s total funding to date to more than $250 million. By late 2023, the “Mega Ranch,” a fully integrated, resource-conserving production plant, is anticipated to produce tens of millions of pounds of Meati annually, matching and frequently surpassing the output of the largest individual animal-based ranches in the United States. Meati is in a better position to succeed in the market and on its own terms thanks to the launch of Mega Ranch, the oversubscribed round led by Revolution Growth, and the most recent investment from Rockefeller Capital.
“Investors and customers acknowledge Meati as a novel, distinctive dish. They only need to look at our short list of ingredients and taste Meati to understand that this is the breakthrough product that consumers have been waiting for. Tyler Huggins, CEO and co-founder of Meati Foods, said that consumers will undoubtedly see Meati on their plates on a weekly, if not daily, basis. “At a time when customers are looking for something new and improved, we were able to unlock a new meal with Meati thanks to our conviction that nature already holds solutions to many of today’s problems. We’re excited to open the first and subsequent phases of the resource-efficient “Mega Ranch” facility since Meati offers an unmatched product in terms of taste, texture, nutrition, and purity, and we hope to assist even more people in adding it to their diets.
The Mega Ranch is distinctive in its vertically integrated approach, with the planting, harvesting, processing, and packaging of Meati products all taking place under one roof. It is designed to scale Meati to an omnichannel, national footprint by late 2023. A few days may be used to transform a teaspoon of spores into the whole-food protein equivalent of hundreds of cows thanks to Meati’s own production methods and distinctive mushroom root. This makes the company’s platform practically infinitely scalable. The Classic Cutlet, Crispy Cutlet, Classic Steak, and Carne Asada Steak are currently available in the Eat MeatiTM product range, which is produced at the Mega Ranch. Customers have continued to embrace Meati goods through the company’s retail and foodservice partners, with Meati products frequently selling out minutes after being released online.
According to Fazeela Abdul Rashid, Partner at Revolution Growth and member of the Meati Foods board, “The next few years will see a seismic shift in how we eat, and Meati’s state-of-the-art, scalable production capabilities coupled with its focus on meeting consumer needs for clean, whole-food protein make it clear they are positioned to lead.” “Tyler and the team have a vision for a brand-new food category with unadulterated ingredients and unwavering flavour. We are eager to collaborate with them in the future to advance Meati and reach more Americans with its products.
Some of the biggest names in gastronomy, like Sam Kass, Nicolas Jammet, Jonathan Neman, and chef and founder of Momofuku and Majordomo Media David Chang, are all passionate supporters of Meati’s textures and flavours.
