It’s no secret that Lotus has a new sports car in the works, but for loyal fans of the British marque, it could mean the end of the three cars the automaker is currently selling. According to a new report from Automotive News Europe, the new sports car will arrive this summer and could serve as a replacement for the Evora, Elise and Exige.
Every car is already very old by auto industry lifecycle standards, and now that Lotus is under Geely’s management, the brand finally has the means to take big steps forward. The new sports car will be Lotus’ first as it prepares the Evija electric supercar and possibly an SUV.
Lotus declined to comment further on the upcoming car, but brand CEO Phil Popham told Automotive News Europe in an interview we will see the sports car this summer. He added that the car would cover a price range of $ 75,000 to $ 143,000. The price range reflects the prices of the three cars that Lotus is currently selling, fueling the possibility that the Evora, Elise and Exige will be phased out.
Here in the United States, however, Lotus only gives us the Evora. The future car, according to Popham, will provide huge growth for the automaker.
We don’t know much more about the new car, but Popham said last year that it won’t include electrification. He said it would be Lotus’ last sports car with an internal combustion engine. In the future, Lotus will focus on electric vehicles with the Evija as a guiding principle.
