LOS ANGELES (AP) – California is revamping its vaccine delivery system to give the state more control over who gets the vaccines following intense criticism of a slow and scattered rollout by counties.
The state health agency said on Tuesday that third-party administrators would take over the ordering and distribution of vaccine doses, ending a hodge-podge system where each county and hospital system would implement its own program. vaccine delivery.
The move comes after California was criticized for a slow rollout as coronavirus cases soared and hospital beds filled with patients across much of the state.
California said workers in healthcare, education and child care, emergency services, and food and agriculture, as well as anyone 65 and over, are eligible for vaccines in the state.
The state will have a site Web where people can sign up to be notified when they are eligible for a vaccine and to schedule appointments.
More people will become eligible for vaccines in the future based on age, the public health agency said in a statement.
