BEIJING (AP) – The coronavirus was discovered on ice cream produced in eastern China, prompting a recall of boxes of the same batch, according to the government.
The Daqiaodao Food Co., Ltd. in Tianjin, near Beijing, has been sealed and its employees tested for the coronavirus, according to a city government statement. There was no indication that anyone had contracted the ice cream bug.
Most of the 29,000 boxes in the lot had not yet been sold, the government said. He said 390 sold in Tianjin were being traced and authorities elsewhere had been notified of sales in their areas.
The ingredients included milk powder from New Zealand and whey powder from Ukraine, the government said.
The Chinese government has suggested that the disease, first detected in the central city of Wuhan at the end of 2019, was from overseas and highlighted what it says are findings of the coronavirus in imported fish and other foods, although foreign scientists are skeptical.
