SOUTH ZANESVILLE – An 81-year-old man was overcome with emotion on Monday after learning how the community reacted when money he had for prescriptions and groceries was taken from his wallet.
Over the weekend at Campbell’s Foodland in South Zanesville, Jerry, whose last name was withheld for security reasons, dropped his wallet in the parking lot.
The $ 300 inside was taken before another customer stumbled across the wallet and returned it to customer service at the grocery store.
“Her heart sank instantly because it was the rest of her money to get through the month, getting prescriptions and shopping for groceries,” said Becky Bruce, a family friend. “Prescriptions are really his biggest concern because he pays a lot out of his own pocket.”
