In recent years, there has been progress in the field of criminal justice that is often overlooked. Despite the prevalence of tragic events such as police use of force and mass shootings, data from the Council on Criminal Justice shows that there have been positive developments.
The Path to Improvement
Despite the challenges in the criminal justice system, there is evidence of progress. The decrease in arrest rates, incarceration rates, and recidivism rates indicate positive changes. Additionally, the reduction in the number of youth removed from their homes for delinquency shows improvement in the juvenile justice system. While there are still disparities to address, such as racial disparities in imprisonment, it is important to acknowledge the steps forward in the pursuit of a fair and effective criminal justice system.
