Research Identifies Key Factors in Cyberstalking Victimization
Understanding the Factors Behind Cyberstalking
The widespread use of digital technologies and the Internet has led to an increase in cyberstalking, a form of personal intrusion that can cause fear and discomfort for victims. A new study conducted by a researcher at Sam Houston State University delved into the factors associated with cyberstalking perpetration and victimization, shedding light on the prevalence and harmful consequences of this type of victimization.
Factors Contributing to Cyberstalking
Bitna Kim, the professor of criminal justice at SHSU, identified nearly 60 studies on cyberstalking between 2002 and 2022 and assessed the relative validity of predictors associated with cyberstalking perpetration and victimization. Through a comprehensive analysis, she aimed to determine the relation between potential risk or protective factors and cyberstalking, ultimately aiming to inform efforts to prevent and address cyberstalking.
