PLATTSBURGH, NY (WCAX) – New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has come under fire after two former aides filed complaints of sexual harassment.
These allegations make most people uncomfortable and many did not want to talk about them on camera.
But they are very serious and could shatter the governor’s hopes of extending his political career.
Over the past year, Cuomo has held daily press briefings on COVID and won over many Americans in search of answers.
“He took advantage of it by giving the impression that he was the alternative to President Trump, ”said Harvey Schantz, political scientist at SUNY Plattsburgh.
People like Shirley Dubuque, 80, of Rouses Point, who relied on Cuomo to get him information.
“I just think he’s doing a great job,” Dubuque said.
The Democratic governor stressed that he would be transparent with information. He followed the science and his approval rating last spring skyrocketed because of it.
“Levels that hadn’t been seen before,” Schantz said.
Over the past few weeks, those numbers have become a scandal after the scandal has surfaced.
“I don’t think it’s a coincidence. You often see this when a politician is weakened, ”said Schantz. “Some people call it the shark theory of politics – that people smell blood in water and see blood in and out of water.”
