Department of Health: 14,000 Knox County residents received COVID-19 vaccine, supply continues to cause problems

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WATE) – About 14,000 Knox County residents have received the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Martha Buchanan, director of the Knox County Department of Health. This number includes doses administered by hospitals, long-term care facilities and the department.

In the COVID-19 department update on Thursday, Buchanan said the vaccine supply remains sporadic but more doses are expected soon and will be administered as soon as possible.

The Department of Health rolled out its new online appointment system early Thursday morning after receiving just over 5,200 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The 975 appointments offered were made in just over an hour.

Buchanan said the remaining doses would go to those who have already received their first dose of the vaccine to keep them on schedule.
