WASD won’t work with Diablo 4 when it comes out. The makers of Diablo 4 wanted to make it possible for players to use a controller even on a PC, but it looks like this caused a lot of trouble for those who are used to the old controls.
Before Diablo 4 came out, the people who made it talked about how confident they were in it. John Mueller, the art director, and Joe Piepiora, the associate game director, both said that they learned a lot from the last server stress test, and they’ve also fixed some small problems that likely would have caused problems for players.
From what they said, it seemed like they had gone through every little detail to make sure Diablo 4 would be a hit when it came out. But it looks like WASD support was completely left out. It’s important to note that Diablo 3 also didn’t have WASD support, but Diablo Immortal does.
Several sources have confirmed that Diablo 4 doesn’t work with the WASD keys. A player has also recently heard this from Rod Ferguson, who is in charge of the Diablo series. He said that they are “very aware” of the feedback, but in the meantime, he suggests that most people with accessibility problems try out controller support. The gaming community got very angry about the fact that WASD wasn’t supported.
Some people feel strongly about the need for WASD support because it makes the game more accessible. Using a mouse can be painful or impossible in some situations. A controller can help, but it still needs movements that some people may find hard to do. Some players swear by WASD control because they think it’s the easiest way to move around in an RPG.
There are, of course, a lot of gamers who like controller support a lot and wouldn’t play the Diablo games any other way. Some people enjoy playing with just a mouse, but a lot of fans find it strange that WASD isn’t supported. But based on Rod Ferguson’s answer, it seems likely that Blizzard will add WASD support in the future. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have said “in the meantime” when he suggested controller support.
Since a lot of gamers have complained to Blizzard about the lack of keyboard controls, it’s likely that the company will try to fix the problem as soon as possible. Until that happens, I hope that most people will be able to play Diablo 4 with a controller as well. Diablo 4 will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox X/S on June 6.
