Utica University’s Transition B program offers a solution to the urgent demand for teachers in New York state.
Utica University Features Teacher Certification Program
With the urgent demand for teachers in New York state, Utica University’s Transition B program offers a unique solution. The program provides a five-year, temporary certification while candidates teach and complete the master’s program. Additionally, the program is moving completely online, making it accessible to candidates in rural areas.
Addressing the Teacher Shortage
Richard Moon, a retired public education teacher and now an adjunct professor at Utica University, explains that the shortage of teachers is due to retirements, with close to 50% of public-school teachers in New York state eligible to retire within the next five years.
Online Access and Enrollment
Moon also notes that the Transition B program is seeing an increase in enrollment, especially from candidates in rural areas, as the program is now moving completely online, offering immediate certification to begin teaching in year one.
