Intel told to pay $ 2.18 billion after losing patent lawsuit
(Bloomberg) – Intel Corp. was asked to pay VLSI Technology LLC $ 2.18 billion by federal jury in Texas after losing technology patent infringement lawsuit related to chipmaking, one of the largest patent damages awards in US history. Intel has pledged to appeal. Intel has infringed two patents held by VLSI, the jury in Waco, Texas said on Tuesday. The jury found $ 1.5 billion for infringement of one patent and $ 675 million for infringement of the second. The jury rejected Intel’s refusal to infringe either patent and its argument that a patent was invalid because it claimed to cover work done by Intel engineers.
