CHICO – Used books that have been leafed through by countless bibliophiles fill the towering shelves of the bookstore.
Lately, there are fewer shoppers browsing the shelves inside the brick building at 118 Main Street in downtown Chico.
Almost a year after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the bookstore has barely scratched, owner Josh Mills said.

“We had cashed in what little retirement we had. We burned the first one (payment protection program loan), ”Mills said. “It was very close.”
