Start the pulse rifles, and prepare your acid spit. We’ve recently added a second lead to Fede Alvarez’s upcoming Alien film, bringing the prospect of seeing Xenomorphs on the big screen once more that much closer. In addition to playing Dora in the live-action Dora the Explorer movie, Isabela Merced recently appeared in Rosaline on Hulu. She had previously joined the project as Cailee Spaeny.
We look to unauthorised sources since there is no official information available on the film. Some suggest that filming has already begun and that the movie may be titled Alien: Romulus. Disney, which owns Fox, has been contacted for comment or clarification; if we hear back, we’ll update this article.
Although Deadline first reported the casting, it is still unknown who Merced will be portraying or what the precise plot of the film is. Ridley Scott, who helmed the original Alien and its two most recent big-screen adaptations, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, is producing and Ridley Scott is directing the film, that is all that is known.
So what do we suppose the plot of this film would be? According to early sources, there is no connection to the prior films. So how is that possible? Is it a remake where different characters run into the Xenomorphs? Alvarez undoubtedly has some knowledge of remakes. As Fox is currently developing a forthcoming Alien-themed TV series that serves as a sort of prequel to the films and is set on Mars, we know it’s probably not set there.
Perhaps this will fit with that? What exactly is a Romulus? A ship? None of that is known at this time, but if the movie is already filming or is about to begin (as casting suggests), we’re likely to find out sooner rather than later.
