Showrunner Jon Kasdan has stated that neither he nor Lucasfilm would consider the Disney+ series Willow to be finished, thus it’s possible that it won’t be terminated after all.
If questioned, neither I nor the Lucasfilm staff would or would have truly described [Willow] as being cancelled, he claimed.
A second season of Willow was reportedly not going to happen this week, but Kasdan stated on Twitter (below) that it is simply not happening at this time. Also, a second season is being considered, and according to Kasdan, all of the Season 1 participants are anxious to return.
According to Kasdan, the rumour of the show’s termination may have actually resulted from a decision to dismiss its primary cast so they could pursue other chances. According to what has been verified within Lucasfilm, Willow won’t start shooting again in the upcoming 12 months, he claimed.
“The main themes of Volume 2 are bravery, desire, acceptance, and the humour and beauty that can be discovered in even the most difficult circumstances. It’s about the adversaries we must inevitably face, both externally and, frequently far more subtly, internally. But above all, it’s about the enduring power of friendship, which is indescribable.”
But that doesn’t guarantee it won’t later. We’ve created and written what we believe will be a mind-meltingly entertaining, richer, darker, and better Volume 2, which expands on the characters and plot of our first eight chapters, Kasdan stated.
Kasdan added that although Annabelle Davis’ character Mims appears in every episode of Season 2, the main cast’s departure merely gives her the time to pursue other options.
We’d all love nothing more than to deliver Volume 2 on the scale expected and demanded by the story we’re presenting, I’m sure I speak for everyone involved when I say that,” Kasdan remarked. Do we start pre-production? not at this time. Does that imply that we won’t succeed at all? Without a doubt.”
IGN has contacted Disney for comment regarding Willow’s situation. In November of last year, Willow made its Disney+ debut to mostly favourable reviews; IGN gave it a 9/10. In our review, we stated that Ron Howard’s underappreciated fantasy masterpiece was continued in Willow, which is surprisingly warm and fascinating.
