Damian Lewis wrote the following tribute to his wife.
“I have never known anyone so consciously to propagate happiness,” Damian wrote in The Sunday Times, adding that she “made their day better.”
“I have never known anyone who could enjoy life so much. Her ability to be in the present and enjoy the moment was inspiring. She was also not interested in the navel. No real personal interest in self-reflection; she believed in looking out, not in. That’s why she was able to turn her light so vividly on others, ”continued Damian.
He added that she was “funny as hell” but also that she could be “beautifully angry, imperious, dismissive. Gloriously. ”
As her life ended, she told Damian “to have girlfriends, lots of them,” but added, “At least try to go through the funeral without kissing someone.”
She also told their children, “Don’t be sad because even though I am about to take it away, I have lived the life I wanted.
Damian concluded, “I miss her already. She has shone brighter in recent months than you might imagine, even the brightest star could shine. In life, too, we had to get up to meet her. But his greatest and most exquisite act of bravery and generosity was to “normalize” his death.
“She didn’t show fear, bitterness, or self-pity, she only gave us the courage to continue and insisted that no one be sad, because she is happy. I am bowled over by her. It has been a meteor in our life, ”he added.
