Back to work! A month after revealing that she had tested positive for COVID-19, Ellen DeGeneres returned to her talk show on January 13 and briefed viewers on her battle with the virus.
Ellen degeneres made his comeback to daytime television after a month-long hiatus on January 13. The talk show host took a hiatus from The Ellen DeGeneres Show after testing positive for coronavirus in December. She opened her comeback show by discussing the diagnosis in her opening monologue, in which she also shared the only symptom she suffered while battling the virus.
“For the first three days, I slept 16 hours a day,” said Ellen. “Then on the fourth day I woke up with back spasms and thought I was pulling a muscle or slept weirdly because I was [quarantining] in a different bed. But it persisted and the doctor put me on painkillers and muscle relaxers. Pain relievers did not help. My back got worse. I felt like I had cracked a rib. So they finally put me on a steroid pack because the other stuff didn’t work, and the steroids did.
Before experiencing the severe back pain herself, Ellen had never heard of anyone else having this symptom. However, as she began to tell more friends about it, she found that “several people” she knew had also heard of back pain as a symptom of COVID. “It’s the only symptom I’ve had,” Ellen said. “I didn’t have a headache, I didn’t have a fever, I didn’t lose my sense of taste. I started to feel better and I am very lucky and blessed.

Unfortunately, she still has no idea where she contracted the virus. “I still don’t know where I got it,” Ellen admitted. “I wear a mask, I wash my hands. So it’s a mystery to me. Ellen seemed in a good mood during the show and of course also made several jokes in the middle of the monologue. She also had Dr Sanjay Gupta as his first returning guest, with CNN Jake tapper.
Ellen has joined a long list of celebrities who have also tested positive for the virus. Stars like Khloe Kardashian, Kanye West, Tom Hanks and many others have also spoken about their experience with COVID. Fortunately, the vaccine rollout is underway and some celebrities have also been able to start getting the vaccine, which will continue over the next few months.
