Demi Lovato is still standing at the end. The lead tune from the Scream VI soundtrack, “Still Alive,” which the singer co-wrote with Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, was released on Friday.
Do you like scary movies? is written on an invitation that Lovato presents to a hotel employee, played by Ice Nine Kills’ Spencer Charnas, as she arrives to the establishment with a group of pals. Lovato then settles in with a group of friends for what appears to be a screening of Scream 6. Before the movie unexpectedly stops playing at the theatre, the video cuts between Lovato and her friends watching the movie and scenes from the real movie.
In a press release, Lovato stated, “I couldn’t think of a more suitable home for ‘Still Alive’ than within the Scream universe. It’s an honour for me to be a part of such a well-known horror franchise because I’m a tremendous fan of the movies.
The surroundings of the Scream scenes also become more intense. When Lovato and her friends try to fend off Ghostface and flee, the actor who plays the person presenting the movie, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, collapses and dies.
The pop-punk album Holy Fvck, with songs like “Skin of My Teeth,” “29,” and “Eat Me” with Royal & the Serpent, was released last year. “Still Alive” is Lovato’s first single since that time.
By the time Scream is defeated at the end of the clip, Lovato is seen holding a knife over Ghostface’s body. As it turns out, Lovato was attacked by Ghostface as part of the movie they were viewing, and she is the “last girl.”
Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding), and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) are the four Woodsboro survivors who move to New York City in an effort to get away from Ghostface.
The movie’s slogan, however, says that “In a city of millions, no one hears you scream.”
Scream VI, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, will also mark the comebacks of Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers and Hayden Panettiere’s Kirby Reed. The movie also stars Josh Segarra, Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, and Liana Liberato.
