As reported in a recent report from ET Online, Adam DeVine has shared details about a crime that occurred outside his Hollywood Hills home in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The Pitch Perfect star and his wife Chloe Bridges observed a party across the street from their balcony, where a man was later killed.
During a live taping of his This Is Important podcast, DeVine shared the story with co-hosts Blake Anderson, Anders Holm, and Kyle Newacheck. In footage from the podcast taping, published by the New York Post, DeVine said that he and Bridges were people watching as guests arrived at their neighbor’s home in luxury vehicles.
DeVine explained, “And I see these dudes and it’s like fun to sit and watch. [So] me and my wife, we’re sitting up on our balcony, and like, ‘This looks crazy.’ This is where it gets sad. Someone was murdered there!”
He continued, “I called that s**t. I was like, ‘This is dastardly s**t going down here.’ And sure enough, someone is gunned down.” DeVine later clarified his remarks in a tweet, noting that he and Bridges “did not witness the shooting” and “weren’t even in the city when this happened.”
As reported in KTLA, the victim DeVine appears to be referring to has been identified as 39-year-old Emil Lahaziel. The outlet reports that investigators believe Lahaziel was standing in the driveway of a residence in Los Angeles when an argument broke out and someone opened fire and fled in an unknown vehicle around 2 a.m. PT on Wednesday. Lahaziel was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police told CBS News that there may be multiple suspects, and authorities are looking for any video that may help with the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the LAPD at 1-877-275-5273.
The incident has understandably shaken DeVine and his wife, as well as the Hollywood Hills community. It’s a reminder that crime can happen anywhere, even in the most affluent neighborhoods. While it’s important to remain vigilant and aware of our surroundings, it’s also important to remember that we cannot control the actions of others.
As the investigation into this tragic event continues, our thoughts are with the family and friends of Emil Lahaziel. We hope that justice will be served, and that the Hollywood Hills community can find some sense of peace and security in the aftermath of this terrible crime.
