Jimmie Allen makes history at 2021 ACM Awards before Brad Paisley breaks his performance
Jimmie Allen performs alongside Brad Paisley during the 2021 ACM Awards at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN on Sunday night (April 18).
The 31-year-old ‘Freedom Was A Highway’ singer’s performance was crushed by Brad, following Jimmie’s historic victory on the show.
Jimmie became the first black man to win the New Male Artist of the Year award.
“I remember seeing ACM grow up,” he recalls in an interview with People. “I started on the couch and when the winner took the category I had to get up and stand by the TV and do my acceptance speech. It’s something I’ve wanted for a while and it’s pretty cool that it’s here.
Jimmie added that he never celebrates “something like that.” I’ve been trying to make music for so long, I’m a bit addicted to wrestling, grind, so usually once I get to a point I’m like, ‘Aiight, cool, what the hell who will follow? I’m ready to start hitting the ground again, running.
“This time I’m really going to celebrate! I brought my family over, some friends have come, and I’m just going to hang out, have a barbecue.
It’s not @JimmieAllenfirst rodeo! The ACM New Male Artist of the Year winner went to @BluebirdCafeTN stage to perform his single “Freedom Was A Highway”, this time with @BradPaisley! 🙌 Catch the rest of the #ACMawards at @CBS or @paramountplus NOW! pic.twitter.com/7k51h8RniV
