Well, there have been many cases where the stars have done something special for their friends in the industry. But it was simply surprising to have a free full cast for Manto it's directed by Nandita Das. The actress turned filmmaker wanted to do this biopic on the famous poet Sadat Hassan Manto and she is completely touched by the gesture of all those who worked in the film, especially Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who has only accused Rs 1 as his remuneration.
Speaking on the same subject, Nandita Das said it was nice to make a film without even taking a nominal fee. She added about how he offered to do Manto in just Re. 1. Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Ranvir Shorey, Divya Dutta and Javed Akhtar also worked without making the film pay.
The actress turned filmmaker also talked about how Rishi Kapoor gave the green light for the film at the first meeting not to mention the money or his fees. She also thanked Paresh Rawal with whom she worked with Firaaq and enjoyed it for perfectly performing his role in the film.
The filmmaker insists that good actors are always hungry for good projects and that there is no greater compensation than the joy of working on interesting projects.
Manto has received rave reviews through international film festivals and it remains to find a release date for Indian multiplexes.
