Meghan is expecting her second child – a baby girl – this summer and has not received permission from her doctor to fly overseas, let alone during a pandemic. “I can confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend his grandfather’s funeral and follow COVID-19 protocols for travel to and from the UK as well as during his stay in the country,” the representative said of Meghan and Harry. The news comes days after the couple honored the Duke of Edinburgh, who died just a month before his 100th birthday on April 9, with a post on their official Archewell website. “In memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh,” the tribute reads. “Thank you for your service, we will miss you very much.” Harry’s trip to the UK will be the first since his groundbreaking interview with Oprah, and he will be reunited with his brother Prince william in the midst of their reported quarrel.
The list of funeral guests will be capped at 30 under UK government guidelines due to COVID, according to the BBC, so it is expected that most attendees will be immediate family members, including the wife of Philip for 73 years, Queen elizabeth ii, 94 years old, her children and grandchildren. Buckingham Palace has yet to officially confirm details of the service, but the Queen is expected to spend the eight days before there in mourning and will not perform any royal duties until the service ends.
