Samuel L. Jackson, Danielle Brooks and John David Washington to star in ‘The Piano Lesson’ and on Broadway
Samuel L. Jackson, Danielle Brooks and John David Washington will all be heading to Broadway next year… and then they’ll turn the play into a movie!
All three actors are set to appear in a revival of August Wilson’s classic play The Piano Lesson in 2022.
The Daily Mail Baz Bamigboye reports that the production will be directed by wife of Samuel LaTanya Richardson Jackson.
A film version of the play is also in the works, with all three actors due to appear. A different director will direct the film, although it will not be Barry Jenkins previously reported.
Denzel Washington will produce the film and he previously told the New York Times that Barry was in talks to direct. The actor plans to turn all 10 pieces of Wilson’s Century Cycle into films and he has already completed Ma Rainey’s Fences and Black Bottom.
BroadwayWorld reports that The Piano Lesson “takes place in 1936 in Pittsburgh and follows the life of the Charles family as it deals with themes of family heritage and more, to decide what to do with an inheritance, the family piano.
