The historical epic Manikarnika: the queen of Jhansi is in serious trouble. Apparently, Kangana Ranaut's takeover of the project as a director is not a temporary patchwork deal due to the fact that the film's official director, Krish, took on another project.
"He was released. Krish was expelled. She (Kangana Ranaut) gradually took over the project and the producers complied with the letter. She first muscled the writing and then the direction. Kangana told the actors what to do. Krish is not a ride. He has directed several blockbuster movies in Telugu cinema and directed historical epics like Gautamiputra Satakarni and Kanche. He was chosen to lead Manikarnika for his vast experience. How could he know that he would be so humiliated and excluded from the project? Said a source very close to the film.
Another prominent filmmaker from Bollywood says he is not surprised by the turn of events. "That's exactly what Kangana Ranaut had done with Hansal Mehta and Vishal Bhardwaj. During the shooting of Rangoon she tried to make her way through the writer and the director's chair. Vishal interrupted the shoot and gave Kangana an ultimatum: either stop interfering with his work or allow him to close the film. That's when she decided to back down. Hansal obediently respected all his requirements and lived to see his film become a mess.
To return to the crisis, an eminent actor of Manikarnika sighs and says, "The irony is that Krish shot an incredible movie. What he captured on camera is epic. Kangana has nothing to do to add to two. It's as if the Taj Mahal had an extra layer of paint.
