The news that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s eldest son Nick is in serious condition “devastates me to the core,” he said in a statement issued tonight. He has been battling gastric cancer for the past 18 months, as my friends and family are aware, and Nick is currently in the hospital.
The composer of Phantom of the Opera has revealed that Nicholas Lloyd Webber, his eldest child, is suffering from stomach cancer and is in a grave condition. Sir Andrew will have to miss this week’s Broadway premiere of the composer’s Bad Cinderella because to Nicholas’ hospitalisation.
The composer continued, “I have therefore been unable to attend the recent Bad Cinderella previews, and as things stand, I will not be able to support its magnificent cast, crew, and orchestra on Opening Night this Thursday.
This Wednesday, which also happened to be the composer’s 75th birthday, Andrew Lloyd Webber was slated to attend a press conference for the Broadway production of Bad Cinderella. On Thursday, March 23, the Imperial Theatre will debut Bad Cinderella.
He continued, “We are all hoping Nick will turn the corner. “My place is with him and the family right now, but he is valiantly fighting with his indomitable humour.”
The Grammy-nominated composer and record producer Nicholas, 43, is best known for, among other things, scoring the 2021 movie The Last Bus and the BBC 1 drama Love, Lies and Records. The 2021 original London cast CD Cinderella was co-produced and mixed by him (the previous name of Bad Cinderella).
The next musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, whose The Phantom of the Opera, which will end next month, is the longest-running show on Broadway in history, is titled Bad Cinderella.
