Balasaheb Thackeray is one of the most iconic political figures in India and his biopic is highly anticipated by many, especially those residing in Maharashtra. The bilingual film Thackeray is about to come out next year with Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead and we learn that Amrita Rao has been locked up to play the prominent role of Meenatai. For the uninitiated, Meena Thackeray was the woman and Balasaheb Thackeray's support system.
Thackeray, directed by Sanjay Raut, will mark the return of Amrita Rao on the big screen after five years. The actress was in the news two years ago after making a connection with RJ Anmol. Explaining his choice to have Amrita as Meenatai, director Sanjay revealed in recent reports that the actress's face reflects the same innocence as Meenatai's. Despite her gentle nature, Raut sees her as the mainstay of Thackeray's life and of her family. He believes that his strong nature has held them all together, thus helping Thackeray's party, Shiv Sena.
He described Meenatai as an incarnation of matrutwa [which means motherhood]. Regarding the character of Amrita, Sanjay pointed out that his character spanned three decades, from 1969 to 1995. He also explained how Amrita shared a great fellowship with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It is the first time that two of them will be paired and Amrita would have already completed his filming parts.
