The ‘Queer as Folk’ reboot is coming to Peacock!
Queer as Folk is back!
The hit series, which began in the 1990s as a British series before being adapted in North America, is reimagined in a new series from creator Stephen Dunn for Peacock, Variety reported Thursday (April 8).
The show received a direct serial commission and is described as a modern take on the original British series, chronicling the life of a group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the wake of tragedy .
“Queer as Folk was more than just a show, it was a revolutionary and necessary voice for so many people. The new version of Stephen for Peacock comes at another pivotal moment in our culture, ”said Lisa Katz of NBCUniversal.
The original show ran for 10 episodes between 1999 and 2000 in the UK, and was followed by a North American remake in 2000, which spanned five seasons.
“It is a surreal honor to adapt Russell T. Davies’ notoriously groundbreaking series. When the show originally aired, the idea of unapologetic queer stories on TV was so provocative that I felt I couldn’t watch Queer Like Folk in secret. But so much has changed in the past 20 years and how wonderful it would be if the next generation didn’t have to watch Queer as Folk alone in their damp basements with the sound muted, but with their families and their friends and the volume all increased. the way to the maximum, ”said Stephen Dunn, who will draft, direct and executive produce, as well as direct the pilot.
There are no details on the cast or a release date yet.
