“At this moment, the Nation is reconciling with its history and trying to eliminate the vestiges of institutional racism to achieve true racial justice,” wrote Will and Antoine. “We cannot in good conscience give economic support to a government that enacts regressive voting laws designed to restrict voter access.”

“The new voting laws in Georgia are a reminder of the voting barriers that were passed at the end of the reconstruction to prevent many Americans from voting. Unfortunately, we feel compelled to move our film production work from Georgia to another state, ”they continued.

The couple’s move comes after new legislation in Georgia imposed a number of new restrictions on voting.

According to New York Times, it includes limits on who can vote using provisional ballots, imposes new oversight of county election commissions, and places restrictions on drop-off boxes. It is also a crime to offer food or water to those in line to vote.

In the film, Will plays a real slave on the run who escapes to join the Union army. See more details on the film here.

Will recently hinted at a possible future career in politics.
