Improvements to Farm Bureau University continue with the recent launch of a new policy advocacy module. The module offers self-paced lessons covering topics related to political advocacy, including preparing and conducting visits with legislators and building relationships with elected officials.
FB University enables Farm Bureau members to learn through interactive online experiences when and where they want. It is easy to log into the program from a desktop computer in an office or on an iPad in the field.
Stacey Lauwers, Farm Bureau member and Michigan leader who was recently elected chair of the AFBF Promotion and Education Committee, completed the new module and found it useful when planning future advocacy efforts. .
“I know I will be better prepared for future meetings with lawmakers,” Lauwers said. One thing to remember – it is extremely important to translate your thoughts on a particular issue into desired action steps before a meeting takes place.
Sharing the vital importance of rural broadband for farmers and water-related issues are two topics Lauwers plans to advocate on in the near future.
Mayghan Watson, Farm Bureau member and leader from North Carolina, also completed the new module and gave it high marks for ease of use and incorporating a variety of engaging activities.
