BLOOMFIELD, NJ – It’s been a year since COVID-19 became a household name and forced every household to come closer than ever. The general public may have been taken by surprise, but the Bloomfield Department of Health (BHD) was ready: planning for pandemics and other public health events and emergencies is part of their mandate.
The HDB was recently re-accredited, a comprehensive process that helps the ministry access resources and collaborate with contractors and other agencies. “Once COVID-19 started, the benefits of being accredited became more obvious, ”said Karen Lore, HDB Health and Wellness Director. The HDB has predicted possible pandemics in the past: Lore mentioned H1N1, SARS and other near misses.
