The roles of two senior cabinet ministers at the center of rape scandals in parliament have been called into question as the pair take time off for mental health and illness.
A senior labor official has publicly asked whether Attorney General and Industrial Relations Minister Christian Porter and Defense Secretary Linda Reynolds are fit for the job.
“Are we all supposed to claim Christian Porter’s return from leave that nothing happened?” Labor spokeswoman for home affairs Kristina Keneally said on Sunday.
“We need to be clear that he is a fit and appropriate person to take on the post of Attorney General, the first lawyer in this country.”
Porter has categorically denied the rape allegations of a woman who killed herself last year.
