This last claim would have been laughable if it had been made in another year. But he’s painfully ignorant during the pandemic when people wait for vaccines and those who have received them call the ‘miracle’ vaccines that will put COVID-19, not people, under control.

More Disturbingly, as Gothenburg Senator Matt Williams pointed out during the hearing, the bill could be read to allow Nebraskans to refuse a vaccine at any time for any reason. The danger to public health this could create has never been so obvious.

The anti-vaccination movement dates back to the first vaccines in 1800, and has been amplified over the past two decades by celebrities, the internet, and social media.

This vaccine effort, as witnessed by Dr. Michelle Walsh, president of the Nebraska Medical Association, has led to lower vaccination rates and increased cases of measles, mumps and pertussis, the diseases which had been largely eliminated by vaccines.

And Walsh correctly warned that the bill would likely undermine existing requirements that all children who attend Nebraska school, public or private, must be vaccinated against polio, chickenpox, measles, mumps and more. …
