Swansea’s Primark is set to host a series of repair workshops on Tuesday 6 June from 10.30am to 4.30pm. The fast-fashion chain on St Mary’s Square is offering four free masterclasses that will be conducted by fashion designer and lecturer Lorraine Mitchell. The workshops aim to empower people with basic hand-sewing techniques so that they can repair and rewear their clothes.
The free sessions are suitable for complete beginners, and attendees will be provided with a reusable tote bag and a sewing kit to use at home. The 10.30am session will focus on simple sewing hacks to mend, alter or update clothing. At 12.00pm, Lorraine will cover buttons and methods of attachment, so attendees can practice fixing and updating buttons on clothing. The 13.30pm workshop is focused on zips, giving attendees all the skills to repair or add zips to their favourite fashion items.
The 15.00pm Upcycle and Relove workshop will require attendees to bring a pre-loved pair of denim jeans, a hoodie or jumper to learn upcycling and sewing techniques that will help give their clothes a longer life. The latest events follow Primark’s successful pilot programme of repair workshops across the UK last year, which educated more than 530 colleagues and customers in basic sewing and repair skills.
