Health officials face problems as many fail to return for second dose of COVID-19 vaccine

ROWAN COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) – Local health officials are wondering if the newly approved Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine will make a big difference, as many people do not show up for their second injection of the vaccine Pfizer or Moderna.

Nearly four million doses of the new vaccine are being rolled out across the country right now, just days after the FDA approved it for emergency use, and tens of thousands of them are en route to North Carolina.

FOX 46 visited a vaccination event in Charlotte on Monday where they make an average of 3,000 appointments per day, but in Rowan County officials say they see a problem with people not coming back for their second dose.

County health officials say about 10% of people do not show up for their second injection.
