Other merchandise includes shirts with slogans like “Be Proud” and “Ask Me My Pronouns.” The Pride display and associated products were initially highlighted by the Twitter account “End Wokeness.” TPUSA contributor Morgonnn slammed the sale of LGBTQ clothing for children as “disgusting” and “blatant virtue signaling” to promote “transgender ideology” to young Americans. Some users called for a boycott of the company.
As featured on a recent article on Fox News, Kohl’s has come under fire from shoppers after becoming the latest major retailer to sell LGBTQ clothing for infants and young kids. The department store’s Pride Month merchandise includes a “Baby Sonoma Community Pride Bodysuit set” designed for 3-month, 6-month, and 9-month-old kids. The outfit depicts what appears to be a lesbian couple with a dog and three children, including a young boy in a wheelchair. One of the adults in the drawing carries a progressive pride flag.
In addition to the bodysuit set, Kohl’s is also selling other Pride-themed merchandise, including a “Love Is Love” banner, towels, bibs, candles, shorts, and pillows. Several clothing items can also be found, including shirts that say, “Be Proud” and “Ask Me My Pronouns.”
However, not everyone is happy about Kohl’s decision to sell LGBTQ clothing for children. Social media accounts have been inundated with criticism, with many users calling for a boycott of the company. TPUSA contributor and influencer Morgonnn slammed the Pride merchandise in a video posted on Sunday, calling Kohl’s sale of LGBTQ clothing for children “disgusting” and “blatant virtue signaling” to promote “transgender ideology” to young Americans.
Skateboarder Taylor Silverman also expressed his displeasure with Kohl’s decision, tweeting, “Pride for babies at @Kohls. Why does Kohls support gay and trans people demanding validation from babies? Why do they want to associate babies with sexuality?”
Despite the backlash, Kohl’s has not yet responded to the criticism. The company’s website still displays various clothing items for newborns and infants, including the controversial bodysuit set.
This is not the first time a major retailer has faced criticism for selling LGBTQ clothing for children. Target was also targeted by critics in 2020 after selling a Pride-themed shirt for children that read, “Love my dads.” LGBT groups and progressives criticized the company for not going far enough in promoting LGBTQ visibility and rights.
Kohl’s has seen its stock plummet over the last year, sinking by over 50% due to various worrying signs. In July 2022, the stock dropped almost 21% after the retailer revealed it had ended a potential deal to be acquired by Franchise Group and warned of a decline in sales exacerbated by a drop in consumer spending.
To end with a flourish, Kohl’s decision to sell LGBTQ clothing for infants and young kids has sparked controversy and criticism on social media. While some see it as a positive step towards promoting LGBTQ visibility and acceptance, others view it as an attempt to push “transgender ideology” onto young children. Regardless of the opinions, it remains to be seen whether Kohl’s will respond to the backlash or continue to sell the controversial merchandise.
