Mass health officials announce 1,516 new COVID-19 cases, 41 deaths, 7-day positivity rate holds 1.9% - Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) – BOSTON (WHDH) – The Department of Public Health reported 1,516 newly confirmed coronavirus cases on Saturday.

A total of 548,874 cases have been reported to date in Massachusetts with approximately 30,111 active cases. The seven-day average positivity rate of 1.85 fell 0.05% from Friday’s report.

A total of 41 new deaths have been confirmed, bringing the number of confirmed virus-related deaths to 15,744 statewide.

Seven hundred and eighty-five people are currently hospitalized and 204 are currently being treated in the intensive care unit.

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person to person, usually between people who are in close contact with each other and via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
