ALBANY, NY (AP) – New York’s coronavirus-era dance rules aren’t exactly strict, but don’t plan on cutting Sunday shoes with just anyone.
The state says when wedding receptions resume next month, guests will only be allowed to take to the dance floor with members of their immediate group, household or family sitting at the same table .
Even so, the rules state that dancers must wear face masks and stay in their own “dance zones or zones” – spaces of at least 36 square feet (3.3 square meters) and placed at least 6 feet (2 meters) apart from other areas and dance tables.
There is also no switching dance area.
Happy couples can still whirl around for a ceremonial first dance, and other couples can join in, but they all need to stay 6 feet apart.
Live music performers and other performers are permitted, but if unmasked or playing a wind instrument, they must be separated from participants by 12 feet (4 meters) or an appropriate physical barrier.
Governor Andrew Cuomo previously announced that marriages can begin again on March 15. Venues will be limited to 50% of their capacity, up to 150 guests, and all must be tested for coronavirus beforehand.
