Lifestyle diseases in women: Seminar highlights spreading awareness, striking work-life balance
The department of bioengineering and the Women’s Study Centre of Integral University, in collaboration with International Society for Medical Food and Nutrition, KGMU, recently organized an international seminar on Lifestyle diseases: Women’s Health Priorities and Interventions. The seminar aimed to spread awareness about advocacy for women, work-life balance, and tackling lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and various types of cancers.
According to a report from recent studies, breast cancer cases in India are alarmingly high, with a patient found every four minutes. Additionally, a study on air pollution reveals that the residents of Lucknow and Kanpur could potentially lose 9.3 years of their lives due to poor ambient air quality in these cities.
Empowering Women’s Health
The seminar focused on empowering women to prioritize their health alongside their professional and personal responsibilities. It addressed mental health issues, musculo-skeletal problems, nutritional needs, and healthy practices. By fostering awareness and support, the seminar aimed to promote a work-life balance and To complete the picture well-being for working women.
KGMU vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand, who was the chief guest at the seminar, highlighted key health ailments afflicting working women. She extended support to all women in the audience for medical tests and treatment at the city’s prime medical institutes, King George’s Medical University and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences.
Dr. Nityanand also urged Integral University to formulate strategies and solutions to support its women workforce and submit a proposal to the state ministry of health for implementation.
The keynote lecture for the seminar’s inaugural session was delivered by Farah Usmani, global vice-president of the SAFAR Foundation.
