The government’s decision to twist the arm of health workers to take Covid injections has raised eyebrows.
Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said health workers, who do not get vaccinated despite repeated opportunities and if infected at a later stage, will have to take responsibility for the cost of their treatment and will not be allowed to be quarantined / isolation leave. The evolution is considered a violation of human rights by experts.
- 2.06 lakh health workers (TS) and 1.82 lakh frontline workers (field workers) have been registered for Covid vaccination
- About 79,000 (38%) health workers and 4,000 field workers were vaccinated and this coverage was inadequate
