Biparty lawmakers hope to pass a bill through the Colorado House of Representatives that would expand the Colorado Department of Local Affairs Peace Officer Mental Health Grant program, which helps fund initiatives such as the Summit County SMART team.
After facing some opposition from community members, the bill’s sponsors, Rep. Julie McCluskie, of Dillon, and Rep. Hugh McKean were able to work with relevant stakeholders to add amendments that eventually allowed the bill to pass through the Public and Behavioral Chamber, Health Committee.
