Phoebe Putney Health System, based in Albany, Ga., Advises patients of possible billing phone scam information of them, according to the Albany Herald.
The scam may include a call from someone claiming to be a Phoebe Putney health system representative asking patients for a credit card and billing. information, the newspaper said. Patients have reported that the rep’s name is Kereem Miller, but Phoebe said he and the partner agency do not have any employees with that name.
Phoebe said that even if she calls patients who have unpaid medical balances, agents will refer to a specific amount that is owed and ask for a preferred method of payment, not a credit card number. Additionally, agents can verify the date of service and what services were rendered.
