State Assembly Republicans said on Thursday they would expand their efforts to impeach Gov. Andrew Cuomo to include allegations he sexually harassed multiple women.
Assembly Republicans previously announced an impeachment commission amid an ongoing controversy over the administration’s handling of nursing home deaths during the pandemic and reports of deaths during the ‘last year.
“What more Should lawmakers see before forming an impeachment commission to begin investigating Governor Cuomo? We have a nursing home cover-up involving the deaths of 15,000 elderly people being examined by the FBI and the US prosecutor. Now, multiple allegations of sexual harassment against the governor will trigger an investigation by the state attorney general, ”said Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay.
“Where is the New York State Legislature?” We have the power and the ability to issue subpoenas, call witnesses and demand documents. What is apparently missing is the will to do everything.
Democrats hold large majorities in the State Senate and Assembly, and for now, impeaching the governor is an unlikely outcome.
But the expanded impeachment campaign also comes as several Democratic lawmakers in both chambers called on Cuomo to step down after a week of allegations. Two former associates, Lindsey Boylan and Charlotte Bennett, alleged that Cuomo was sexually harassed while working in his administration.
