MILWAUKEE – With the COVID-19 vaccine in limited supply, health systems are prioritizing patients in eligible groups who are offered the vaccine first. The distribution differs between health systems, but ultimately the message from health professionals is the same.
Contact 6 met Nancy Tegeder at a walk-in vaccination event. Tegeder had tried to secure an appointment for his 74-year-old mother for the vaccination. After calling her mother’s doctor, Tegeder decided she needed to look elsewhere.
“The appointments were well in advance or there was no room,” Tegeder said. “We thought maybe there was a crowd here, but there wasn’t.
Like pharmacies and health services, hospitals and clinics receive only a fraction of the first doses they request from the state.
