Here’s What We Know About ‘Elden Ring’ From Summer Game Fest – Marin Independent Journal

“With ‘Elden Ring,’ we have applied all our dark fantasy and action-RPG expertise cultivated throughout the ‘Dark Souls’ series, in order to create a bold, classical evolution of the genre,” commented Hidetaka Miyazaki, Director at FromSoftware, in a news release. “We’ve crafted a rich world with a staggering sense of scale, based off of legends written for the game by George R. R. Martin. ‘Elden Ring’ is a world full of mystery and peril, ready to be explored and discovered; a drama in which various characters flaunt their own mystique and ulterior motives. We sincerely hope you enjoy experiencing it for yourself.” As the trailer shows, players can traverse via horseback or on foot, and the goal is to find the eponymous Elden Ring. It’s an action RPG that will have gameplay flexibility, according the the publisher. Players can experiment with “a wide variety of weapons, magical abilities and skills.” They can jump into battle or go a stealth route. Whatever the case, “Elden Ring” will be difficult but fair. I saw at least one death during the trailer and players should expect many more as this game does appear to be “Souls” adjacent.

So it sounds as though Martin doesn’t have a role crafting the exact plot, but he is involved in creating the flavor and tone of “Elden Ring.” Players don’t see obvious references to his work in the trailer, but perhaps, the flashes to the adversaries and other side characters will reveal more of his contribution to the project. If the game is “Dark Souls” with a clearer and more compelling story, then it’s a definitely a must-have when “Elden Ring” launches Jan. 21, 2022, on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
