As one of 10 children growing up in extreme poverty in Greensboro, North Carolina, Mark Robinson has defied many hardships in life: an alcoholic and abusive father, stays in foster care, and a mother. single overwhelmed.

After joining the Army Reserve right out of high school, he married and had two children while going through various jobs in furniture making, a trade that kept evaporating as each factory he worked for moved to Mexico.

In 2018, he attended the Greensboro City Council meeting to express his frustration with the city’s decision to ban a local gun show and found himself delivering a casual but deeply passionate speech. Although he did not own a weapon at the time, Robinson pleaded for four minutes to defend the Second Amendment and eventually gained national attention. This year, with few resources and no electoral experience, Robinson became North Carolina’s first elected black lieutenant governor.
