How NASA is tackling climate change from space

The American agency that explores outer space contributes to the global fight against climate change.

With more over two dozen satellites and other measurement tools, NASA collects huge amounts of data on everything from air pollution to global temperatures. Scientists use it information to better understand climate change and how to slow it down.

“The complexities of climate processes are still not fully understood, and climate adaptation and mitigation efforts cannot succeed without sound climate observations and research,” said Bhavya Lal, head of state. – Acting Staff of NASA, in a statement.

On February 3, NASA announced the creation of a senior climate advisor position to continue the agency’s efforts to tackle the climate crisis. Gavin Schmidt, director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies and leading expert in climate modeling, will hold this position until a permanent senior climate advisor is selected.
