The President of the Indian Newspaper Society, L. Adimoolam, met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday and asked the Indian government for help on some of the problems faced by the newspaper industry in the next budget.
During the meeting, Mr Adimoolam stressed that most newspapers, while ensuring that essential information reaches millions of homes every day during the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown, have stopped sending logs. in rural areas to reduce distribution costs, making the rural population dependent on false information on social networks.
Stating that it would take two or three years for the industry to recover, Mr Adimoolam called on the Union finance minister to relieve the print media in the next budget and made five demands.
