The Indian tablet PC market grew 14.7% year-over-year with 2.8 million unit shipments in 2020 – marking a year of growth after 4 consecutive years of decline, a said research firm IDC. “This was a year of growth after declining for four consecutive years, mainly thanks to the increased usefulness of tablets in supporting the demand for e-learning,” he said.
Shipments to consumers saw an “exceptional” growth of 59.8% compared to 2019, IDC added. However, commercial shipments were down 14.3% year-over-year as few government projects were postponed until 2021, he noted.
IDC said demand remains centralized on the budget segment with a contribution of $ 100 to $ 200 more over half of total tablet shipments to India. The market above $ 300 also saw 72.3% year-over-year growth, supported by strong shipments of Galaxy Tab S6 Lite and 10.2-inch iPads, he added.
Lenovo led the market with a 39% market share, followed by Samsung (32%), Apple (13%), iBall (4%) and Huawei (3%).
