Internship opportunities are available at SAU Rankin College of Business

Over the years, college students have encountered numerous issues. The difficulties include staying up late to make it to class on time the next day, juggling demanding classes with a full social calendar, and making sure their rucksack is always stocked with student snacks.

But there are ways for students to get this important work experience. The Rankin College of Business Internship Program at Southern Arkansas University is one such chance. Every semester, the internship programme works with students to place them in employment settings relevant to their academic interests. Students gain a leg up on their professions thanks to this experience.

But probably the most crucial query on students’ concerns is, “How can I obtain a job after I graduate?” And more particularly, the question is this: given that it looks like every prospective company prefers to recruit candidates with work experience, how can a student acquire that experience while still in school?

Nine more internships were completed this summer in addition to the six internships that six College of Business students participated in during the spring semester. The College of Business’s four graduate students also took part in internships this summer.

White returned to the programme in May 2022 after earning her information systems degree. Her most recent internship was as an IT support representative at Stone Bank in Little Rock. White declared that she would advise other College of Business students to participate in the SAU internship programme. “This programme is fantastic. For me, it opened a lot of new doors,” White added. You can really benefit from networking with both professionals and other interns. It educates you about the subject you desire to study.

Naija White, a student who participated in the Tjuanna Byrd Internship Program in the summers of 2021 and 2022, is one such student. For women of colour who are seeking education in a STEM career, there is the Tjuanna Byrd Program. White, who graduated from Lafayette County High School in 2019 and worked as an intern there in North Little Rock in 2021. During her employment there, she attended business gatherings, finished coding tasks, and proofread errors on the Windstream website.

After graduating, Faith Lonigro used her internship-related skills to help her find her first job. Faith was employed by JB Hunt in northwest Arkansas in the logistics division, where she divided her time between dealing with brokers and customer service representatives and employee shadowing. Faith stated, “I absolutely enjoyed my time at JB Hunt. “I gained some experience on the supply chain side, and they were incredibly helpful and friendly.”

Faith will receive her Supply Chain Management degree from SAU in December 2021. She obtained a position with Lanxess in El Dorado, where she works on the company’s production schedule, after graduating from school and gaining experience on the job. Faith stated that her internship “helped me in my job hunt and in getting my first job.” “I probably wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the internship.”

Junior at Rankin College of Business Desiah Williams took part in the internship programme for the first time this summer. She was successful in getting a position in the Tjuanna Byrd summer internship programme, like White. Desiah, a 2019 Bearden High School graduate, did an internship in the IT and Security division at Arvest Bank in Rogers, Arkansas. The internship programme, in the opinion of Dr. Robin Sronce, dean of the Rankin College of Business, is a fantastic initiative that aids students in developing into the careers they choose. Sronce declared, “We are quite pleased of our internship programme.” It enables the Rankin College of Business to collaborate with companies and students. Additionally, it’s a chance for our students to get priceless professional experience.
